• Ohio federal judge halts execution of African American
  The prisoner, William H. Smith, claims that an abnormality in his brain may have affected his behavior when he raped and killed a Cincinnati woman in 1987.

Trial set for bike path rape charges
A Newark man is set to begin trial today, accused of raping a 16-year-old girl twice last April and abducting a woman at knife point from the bike path near Granville Street in September. Roger S. Black, 20, faces two charges of rape, first-degree felonies, one charge of abduction, a third-degree felony, and one count of gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony. Judge Thomas M. Marcelain will preside over the jury trial in Licking County Common Pleas Court. Black was arrested in October after he allegedly grabbed a 23-year-old woman off of the bike path on Sept. 15.

• African Migrant Woman Gets 17 Years for Enslaving Girl
  GREENBELT, Md. -- A Maryland woman was sentenced Monday to more than 17 years in prison for forcing a Cameroonian girl to work as a domestic servant for no pay, beginning when the girl was 11. Theresa Mubang, herself originally from Cameroon, was convicted by a federal jury in November of involuntary servitude and harboring an alien.
