DENVER -- A Spanish-language guide for immigrants has been yanked from a state Web site after criticism that the advice encouraged illegals to take advantage of government benefits. Gov. Bill Owens, who had previously endorsed the guide, said he wasn't aware that some information seemed targeted at illegal immigrants. The guide was removed after Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo, an outspoken proponent of tighter immigration controls, wrote a letter to Owens. - (Albion)

The body of Oscar Sanchez, 30, was discovered a week ago in a remote area nine days after he was snatched from his car on a Dallas street.
Jose Alberto Felix, 28, was being held in a Dallas jail on $1 million bond. His alleged accomplice, Edgar Acevedo, 24, was still at large.
Police believe Acevedo, who used to work at one of the Sanchez family's three Mexican restaurants, escaped to Mexico.

CHICAGO -- Some residents of Chicago's largely Hispanic Pilsen section are upset over a new doll in the popular American Girl series because her storyline says the Mexican-American youngster and her family left the "dangerous" 'barrio' neighborhood for a better life in the (white) suburbs.

SAN FRANCISCO -- A federal appeals court on Wednesday said Stanley "Tookie" Williams, a founder of the notorious Crips street gang who has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, can be executed for killing four people in 1979. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals refused to grant Williams another hearing
based on his argument that prosecutors violated his rights when they dismissed
all potential black jurors from hearing the case. Agreement from a majority of
the 24 active judges is required to grant a rehearing. - (forum) 
Deputies arrested a man suspected of raping a 69-year-old woman on two different occasions. He was caught Tuesday night when he tried to enter her home yet again. Deputies began watching the victim's home on Monday. On Tuesday evening, deputies captured Mario Trejo-Rosales after they saw him peering through the windows at the woman's home around 11:20 p.m. They say he got into the house through a sliding glass door. Investigators confronted him, and the man fought with deputies while attempting to flee. - (forum)

A former Abu Ghraib guard pleaded guilty Tuesday to battery and two other charges in the Iraqi prison abuse scandal as part of a deal with prosecutors on the eve of his trial. Sgt. Javal Davis, 27, also pleaded guilty to dereliction of duty and making a false official statement to Army investigators after photographs of naked and abused prisoners became public last spring. Davis, from Roselle, N.J., will not be tried on two other charges he had faced: conspiracy and maltreating detainees.
