• Ex-Somali Leader Sued for War Crimes
  ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Mohamed Ali Samatar, the former prime minister of Somalia, now a resident of Virginia, was sued Thursday for allegedly allowing war crimes and other human rights abuses to be committed in the 1980s. A similar lawsuit was filed against Yusuf Abdi Ali, a former Somali Army battalion commander who allegedly carried out and supervised killings, torture and beatings. He also lives in Virginia.

  Los Angeles, Mexifornia - A Mexican shot in the head by police as he held a Mexican consulate employee hostage has died, Mexican authorities said. The Mexican, Manuel Jubenal Ortiz-Gonzalez, 19, originally of Jalisco, Mexico, died Wednesday in a hospital.
• Robert Marquez, 26, confessed to stabbing and dismembering a teenage boy in 1998
  The classmate said he spoke up because Marquez was scheduled for release from prison in December on an unrelated conviction. Marquez, a former Walnut High School athlete, confessed during an interview at the prison where he was serving time for an unrelated extortion case, living in a cell he decorated with pictures of dismembered sheep and chickens.
• More States Consider Anti-Illegal Immigration Measures
  Proposition 200 requires people to produce proof of immigration status when obtaining certain government services and will punish government workers for failing to report illegal immigrants who try to get aid. It also requires proof of citizenship when registering to vote. "People are fed up with illegal immigrants breaking the law and not being penalized," said Rosemary Jenks of NumbersUSA Action, a group that advocates reducing immigration. "If the federal government won't deal with it, this is the only avenue."

• La. Diocese Settles Bishop Homo Sex Abuse Claim
  The Roman Catholic diocese did not give details of the settlement involving Bishop Joseph Sullivan. But Bishop Robert Muench, who announced the deal said the accuser's allegations were credible. Sullivan was bishop in Baton Rouge from 1974 until his death in 1982. The accuser, now in his 40s, said he was 17 when Sullivan sexually abused him in 1975.

• Three high school students, one allegedly armed with a bat, were charged with attacking a pro-President Bush classmate after he reportedly said only gays would support Sen. John Kerry.
