"Hispanics" Arrested in I-94 shooting
Brooklyn Center Police arrested three people in connection with a shooting that critically injured a man last week on Interstate 94. Police say Jorge Quijada, 23, was the shooter. He's charged with attempted murder. Quijada's sister, Claudia Launderville, 25, and a juvenile are charged with being accomplices after the crime. According to the criminal complaint, they tried to help Quijada hide the gun used in the shooting. Police are still searching for Isai Flores, 19.

  JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. Ð A teenaged girl in November told police she had been raped by two Latino men at knifepoint in downtown Jackson. This came on the heels of several other rapes and lesser sexual assaults by Latinos in Jackson, as well as charges against Latino men for prostituting a teenager from Mexico in Jackson Hole. But a police prosecutor, Steve Weichman, believes the truth is that, at least at the moment, Hispanic males are being charged with a disproportionate number of sexual assaults. Of the six sexual assaults charges since January, three involved males with Latino surnames. The newspaper did not report any theories to explain this disproportion.

Defense witness says rape killer Juan Mesa Segundo has borderline IQ
FORT WORTH -- The capital murder trial of Juan Mesa Segundo is in the penalty phase with prosecutors trying to send him to the death chamber and defense attorneys trying to persuade jurors to spare his life. Segundo, 43, was convicted of capital murder Thursday for raping and strangling 11-year-old Vanessa Villa on Aug. 3, 1986. He is also accused of raping and strangling Maria Navarro, 32, in 1995 and Francis Williams, 30, in 1994. Prosecutors contend that Segundo's DNA was found in all three of the victims. DNA tests revealed that semen was found in Vanessa's and Navarro's vaginas. - (Newsroom)

  York City Police were still seeking the man who they said abducted and raped a Hannah Penn Middle School student Thursday morning. Police said the driver of a van picked up the girl in the area of East Philadelphia and South Broad streets Thursday morning as she was walking to school and forced her in at gunpoint. York City Police were looking for a red or burgundy minivan with silver or tan around the lower third. The assailant was described as a black man in his 20s, about 5-foot-10, with a heavy build, short hair and a trimmed full beard.

  WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The federal government sued a suburban New York village Friday, alleging that its at-large method of electing trustees is unfair to Hispanics and violates the Voting Rights Act. The government requested that Port Chester -- or a judge, if necessary -- devise a system that would include a racist Hispanic district. "Ethnically and racially polarized voting patterns prevail" in Port Chester's local elections, according to a statement from the Bush-appointed Hispanic U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and other Justice Department officials. Mayor Gerald Logan blasted the lawsuit, calling it "unfortunate and heavy-handed" and noting that Port Chester has used at-large elections since 1868. "We cannot and will not stand idly by and allow the federal government to upset and divide our village," he said. The village is about 25 miles from New York City and is governed by a mayor and six trustees. Port Chester, with a population of about 28,000, is 43 percent Hispanic, according to the 2000 Census. The citizen voting-age population was 22 percent Hispanic, but no Hispanic has ever been elected as a trustee.

All Three Black Men found guilty of felony murder of White Ga. Debutante
The verdict is in for the men accused of murdering a Savannah teen last Christmas Eve. Michael Thorpe, Webster Wilson, and Kevin Huckabee have been found guilty in the slaying of 19-year-old Jennifer Ross. Closing arguments finished up Thursday, and the judge charged the jury, which deliberated until about 7:30pm that night. After a full day of deliberations Friday, the jury went home until 10am this morning. At about 12:30pm today, they announced they had a verdict. The jury presented the verdict and Judge Penny Haas Freesemann read it just after 1pm. Each defendant faces nine counts, the most significant being malice murder, which means murder with intent, and three counts each of felony murder, meaning the murder happened during the commission of another felony. These are the charges for which they face life in prison.   Emmanuel Thompson, an Oklahoma City Schools soccer coach whose body was discovered frozen in his garage died of gashes, cuts and stab wounds, a spokesman for the state medical examiner’s office said Friday. The body had been kept in a box freezer in the garage about 10 days. An autopsy was delayed while the body thawed for several days, he said. The victim’s son, Andrew J. Thompson, 20, is being held without bail in the Oklahoma County jail on a first-degree murder complaint. Law officers found Andrew Thompson hiding late Monday in the attic of the house where he lived with his father.
