Police Arrest 18 Alleged Smugglers A gang suspected of smuggling hundreds of people from Turkey to Britain. All 18 are suspected of conspiring to facilitate trafficking of illegal immigrants and money laundering. The alleged ringleader, who was among those arrested, is believed to own 10 fast-food restaurants employing illegal Turkish immigrants in the London area. In Germany, five other people were held after raids in Hamburg and Cologne. German police said they arrested a 32-year-old Turk suspected of smuggling up to 100 illegal Turkish immigrants through Hamburg. |

in the mountain town of Sogndal reportedly have identified a key murder suspect
Monday, after an autopsy confirmed that a local female student had been strangled.
At least three other women have been
assaulted in the area recently. Police are now looking for a
connection between the assaults and the murder of 19-year-old Hedda
Karterudseter, who was found dead in her student apartment Thursday.
Witnesses have since told police that they saw a man try to get a woman to leave
the spot with him, against her will. Police were searching for a man of Somalian
descent who's believed to have left a Sogndal nightspot with a female
student who was found strangled the next day. The man left Sogndal
the next day on a bus for Oslo, after suddenly asking his employer for three weeks

Newport rugby player got a seven-year jail term for raping
a woman in an alley in what a judge described as a "degrading
and terrifying" attack. Fijian Watisoni Leqeti was found guilty unanimously
at Shrewsbury Crown Court. He had denied raping the 24-year-old woman in the early
hours of February 24 after following her from her friend's flat, before pushing
her into an alley. The judge said that Leqeti had subjected the woman to a
"degrading, forceful and terrifying rape". Leqeti had claimed that
it was the woman who had pulled him into the alley and initiated sex, but the

Simon, the German who discovered "Oetzi", an intact Bronze
Age mummy in an Alps glacier, has been found dead in the Austrian Alps. A hunter
found his remains in a stream just as rescuers were planning to suspend their
search eight days after he went missing while on a hike. The body of the 67-year-old
was found on a peak called Gaiskarkogel, near a resort town south of Salzburg,
Austria. Simon and his wife Erika found the mummy of the prehistoric man in 1991.

14-year-old girl brutally rape by black A community is in shock after a teenage girl was brutally raped in the shadow of a church just 200 yards from her Kentish Town home. The 14-year-old was walking along Marsden Street at about 7.30pm when she took a short cut by St Silas Church. As she went up a flight of steps, near the Chislet block of flats, she was grabbed from behind, dragged into a concrete bin shed and raped. A friend of the victim's mother said the teenager had been left traumatised by the attack. She said: "She is a beautiful, decent girl and this never should have happened. The suspect, who fled the scene after the attack, is described as black, about 16 years old, 6ft tall, with braided hair. |
