• Police arrest man in fatal shooting, seek person of interest
  BEAVERDALE, Iowa — Police say a Des Moines man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting in Beaverdale. Police said Friday that 26-year-old Larry Deandre Ratliff Jr. is charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, first-degree robbery and felon in possession of a firearm. The shooting occurred Tuesday night in a vacant parking lot near Saints Pub and Patio at 4041 Urbandale Ave. Police said Antonio Eugene Quinn, 36, of Des Moines was killed in the shooting. Michael Allen James, Jr., a 33-year-old Des Moines resident, was treated and released from a hospital. Authorities said the person of interest, Anthony Daniels, is still at large and detectives would like to interview him.

  A stabbing on a Port Authority bus that left a man in critical condition Friday seemed to have been an unprovoked attack between strangers, witnesses said. The 24-year-old victim was sitting quietly on the bus about 4 p.m. when the suspect, 30-year-old Juergen Benjamin, boarded the bus in Oakland holding a bottle of malt liquor. He seemed intoxicated, witnesses said. Benjamin sat in front of the victim, near the back of the bus. After Benjamin sat in front of the victim, he then “shouted aggressively” at the man to “stop flicking” something at him. The victim told Benjamin that he didn’t flick anything at him. Seconds later, the attack began. Benjamin stood up and said, “Do you know who I am?” He then hit the victim with the bottle, shattering it. He continued to strike the 24-year-old man in the head and neck.

• Police say this Hispanic pervert tried to rape a woman on Easter morning
  Police released surveillance video of a man who tried to rape a woman during an early Easter morning attack in Queens. The pervert stalked the woman for several blocks before assaulting her as she was walking near the corner of 74th Street and 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights around 4:40 a.m. The suspect grabbed the woman by the arms from behind and started punching her several times in the back of the head, police said. When the woman fell to the ground, the man dragged her up against a nearby fence and tried to rape her. The woman managed to fend off the man, who eventually fled with her purse before he could sexually assault her, cops said. The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 30s and was last seen wearing a white jacket, a green shirt, black shoes and light-colored pants.

A subsequent inspection of Alvarado’s trailer revealed 7,020 pounds of used beverage containers with a potential CRV refund value of $10,275.85. On March 16, CDOJ Recycling Fraud Team agents conducted surveillance on a semi-truck, found to be importing used beverage containers from Parker, Ariz., into Blythe, Calif., via Agnes Wilson Road. CDOJ agents contacted Anthony Sanchez, 56, of Tucson, Ariz., and discovered his trailer filled with 7,675 pounds of used beverage containers with a potential CRV refund value of $9,636.79. Sanchez also presented a fraudulent Bill of Lading and did not have an Imported Material Report, required for anyone who transports used beverage containers into California.

Maquelle Brown, 37, compounded her legal troubles with a violent reaction to her arrest at the Save-A-Lot grocery store. Brown slipped out of handcuffs, damaged the interior of an NOPD cruiser and attempted to physically harm police, medical personnel and herself in a fit of rage over being taken into custody.

  Police say an 88-year-old woman was robbed as she was walking home from church at about 12:10 p.m. Easter Sunday. The victim was walking on the 200 block of South Geneva Street when a woman grabbed her purse from behind, Ithaca police officers said. The victim struggled with her attacker and then the attacker pushed her to the ground. The strap to the victim's purse broke, the attacker took the purse and then fled from the scene inside a small gray or white sedan or SUV, authorities said. After the incident occurred, an officer assisted the victim and told other officers to look for a black heavy-set female, possibly in her 30s, who was last seen wearing light-colored clothing, an Ithaca Police Department press release stated. "The woman had minor injuries that were treated at the scene," said Sgt. Derek Necheporek. Officers responded to the area, but were unable to find the vehicle, the release stated. Police also said a black male was driving the vehicle, but have no further description of the driver.

The court said it would reassign the judge’s case and refer the incident to the Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission “to consider whether he has violated the Code of Judicial Conduct.”

The high court’s decision came after the state filed an emergency petition asking to have Judge Griffen removed from the case, saying his behavior “makes it crystal clear that he cannot be considered impartial in matters related to the death penalty.”

• (Muslim) Marvel Comics Artist Ardian Syaf Blames Offended Jews for Getting Him Fired
  Shamed Marvel Comics artist Ardian Syaf has blamed oversensitive Jewish people for getting him fired, claiming “when Jews are offended, there is no forgiveness”. Syaf lost his job following reports that he inserted (obscure) anti-Semitic and anti-Christian references into the first issue of the publication’s latest X-Men comic. But the artist has remained unapologetic over his dismissal. In an interview with Indonesian newspaper Jawa Pos, the Jakarta-based artist blamed the Jews for his predicament. “But, Marvel is owned by Disney. When Jews are offended, there is no forgiveness,” he said in Indonesian [translated by Heat Street]. Despite his statement, the artist insists that he isn’t actually racist. He told the newspaper that he was neither anti-Semitic nor anti-Christian because if he was, he wouldn’t have worked for Marvel.

  Deirdre Harris, an African-American woman filed a civil rights lawsuit Monday, April 10, against Albertsons and its parent company, Safeway, alleging that its managers took no steps to correct or apologize for the actions of a checkout clerk at an Irvine store who incorrectly assumed the woman was on food stamps. Harris said she spoke with three supervisors including Ron Foss, a regional manager at Safeway. She said he explained to Harris, like others supervisors had before, that the clerk had done nothing wrong and was simply trying to give her free bags, because those using food stamps don’t have to pay for reusable plastic bags. - (Bias lawsuits)

Atlanta rapid transit shooting suspect arrested after he trips, falls * Murder suspect ID’d in ‘targeted’ Atlanta train shooting
ATLANTA - Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority - One man is dead and three others have been injured after someone opened fire on a MARTA train Thursday afternoon. The shooting happened at the West Lake MARTA station just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday. A witness said she went to the MARTA station to pick up a friend and instead found him running out of the station because he said he had just witnessed four people being shot on the train. The victim who died has been identified as Zachariah Hunnicutt, 38. The suspect was identified as Chauncy Lee Daniels. He is facing multiple charges of aggravated assault, murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
