(Black) Grand Blanc woman charged with shooting 2 (White) women (one was pregnant) at apartment complex
Jaquelyn TysonLyric WorkTamara JohnsonGRAND BLANC - - A Grand Blanc Woman is now charged with the shooting of two other women at the Grand Oaks Apartments. The attack left Tamara Johnson dead and Lyric Work on life support. We got our first look at that woman as she was charged with four felonies, Friday morning. Jaquelyn Tyson appeared in front of judge on first degree murder, assault with intent to murder and two felony firearms charges. The 54 year old was a tenant at the Grand Oak Apartments and allegedly walked into the complex office building and opened fire on the two employees inside - Johnson and Work. Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton tells us investigators believe the two women were targeted. “At some point in time, the defendant said to a person who was not a victim, ‘I'm not here for you, I'm not here for you,’” Leyton said. "Then fortunately 911 was called, the police arrived, one of the Grand Blanc city police officers arrived just in time to see the suspect throw something into a hedge of bushes. What she threw turned out to be the gun and we believe it's the gun used in the murders."
Tyson has no prior criminal record. The gun was legally registered to her, and she had a Concealed Pistol License. Leyton admits this is a very unusual case. "We also have some information that the defendant may have had mental health issues, but we're going to have to look into that further," he said. Forty-five-year-old Johnson died at the hospital and 20-year-old Work, who was pregnant, had an emergency C-section to save her baby girl. Work was eight months pregnant. Because Work is not expected to survive, Leyton says the assault with intent to murder count would be changed to first degree murder. Investigators are also looking into a landlord tenant dispute in the Grand Blanc courts earlier this year as a possible motive in the case. Bond was denied in the case. If convicted of first degree murder, Tyson could face life in prison without parole. Tyson is scheduled to be back in court for a probable cause conference on Aug. 11. - (Black-on-white)

(Black) Killer Gets Life Sentence In 2012 Murder Of (two white) Teenage Girls Near Oakland Park
Diantay PowellBobbie Sartain and Raquel GerstelOAKLAND — An Oakland man was sentenced Friday to life in prison without parole plus 65 years for his conviction for two counts of murder and the special circumstance of committing multiple murders for fatally shooting two teenage girls near Brookdale Park in East Oakland in 2012. Before he was sentenced, Diantay Powell, who’s now 21 but was 18 at the time, apologized for fatally shooting 16-year-old Bobbie Sartain and 15-year-old Raquel Gerstel in the 2600 block of Minna Avenue near Brookdale Avenue around 5 a.m. on Nov. 25, 2012. Jurors convicted Powell of second-degree murder for the death of Gerstel, who he shot first, and first-degree murder for the death of Sartain, who he shot next as she tried to run away. Powell said he was angry at the time he fired a barrage of bullets at the two girls because he’d been high on drugs for two days . Powell’s lawyer , Darryl Stallworth, admitted during the trial that Powell shot both girls but said he should only be found guilty of two counts of the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter because he acted rashly and in the heat of passion. Gerstel and Sartain were friends who grew up together in Alameda. Gerstel lived in San Leandro and was a freshman at Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo. Sartain lived on High Street in Oakland, a few blocks from where the shooting happened. Sartain and Gerstel were involved in (statuatory rape) relationships with Powell and his friend Antonio Edwards, respectively.
Edwards is already serving a term of 95 years to life in state prison because he was convicted last year of robbery, rape, assault with a deadly weapon and other sex charges for allegedly assaulting a woman and knocking her boyfriend unconscious in an unrelated incident.
Powell got a call from one of his girlfriends and asked Sartain and Gerstel to leave. Gerstel’s father, Barton Gerstel, said Friday, “I’m glad the trial is finally over but this doesn’t bring Raquel back.” Gerstel said Powell’s apology “kind of counts for something but it doesn’t change the fact that I can never have grandchildren from my daughter and I can never see her smile again.” - (Black-on-white)

Man man extradited from US found guilty of eight counts of rape
Pierre Antoine BateA US citizen who was extradited to the UK to stand trial has been found guilty of a violent rape he committed 20 years ago. Pierre Antoine Bate, 42,, of Maricopa Drive, Santa Barbara broke in and carried out a violent and sustained attack on a woman in her south London home. During the early hours of July 22 1996 the victim awoke in her Thornton Heath home to find Bate in her bedroom staring at her. He told her that a friend of his was with her children in the room next door, and then placed his arm across her throat and raped and indecently assaulted her several times for more than an hour and a half, when he fled the scene and the victim was able to call police. Detectives investigating the crime managed to recover a partial DNA profile, but at that time it was not enough to identify a suspect. However, in 2011, a forensic review of the investigation was conducted, and material taken at the time of the original investigation was examined using enhanced DNA techniques. - (UK)

Judge denies motion for serial rapist
David Lee GarthMORGAN COUNTY, AL - Attorneys for a serial rapist who assaulted women in Decatur thirty years ago made a motion that would lead to a reduced sentence on Friday morning. Within hours, the judge rejected the request. David Lee Garth's attorneys submitted his case for youthful offender status to Morgan County Circuit Judge Steven Haddock. Haddock promptly denied the status. In November of 2015, a Morgan County jury convicted David Lee Garth on three counts of First Degree Rape for a series of attacks at an apartment complex from November of 1985 through May of 1986. A Decatur Police Department task force assigned to the investigation arrested Garth for First Degree Burglary and one count of First Degree Rape in 1986, and he was convicted in 1987. Burglary is first degree if the perpetrator is armed, and Garth was armed with a handgun. Investigators believed he was the rapist in several other cases, but with no DNA testing capabilities at the time of the crimes, they were unable to make the charges against Garth then. Authorities kept the forensic samples from the rape kits. In 2012, as Garth served his sentence in a state prison, a cold case task force matched his DNA to three rapes of victims in the 1985-86 cases.

Father of victim wants to know why (black) sex offender was back on the street
Themba Hasaan KelleyMichael Kiriazis - White father of 12-year-old girl victimWhite teen victimPORTLAND, OR - A local father is asking why a dangerous man was out on the street after learning the registered sex offender accused of groping his daughter in a Baskin Robbins bathroom before committing other crimes was just arrested again. Themba Kelley was supposed to face a judge on his new charges Wednesday, but that court appearance never happened. Kelley refused to leave his cell, and jail staff said they’d have to force him out, so the judge set it over for Thursday. Kelley was in court at that time after approaching a 12-year-old girl at her northeast Portland home, months after he took a plea agreement after being accused of groping a girl working at Baskin Robbins in the bathroom of the ice cream shop. He was also convicted of criminal mischief after breaking into a woman’s apartment in January of this year and picked up again Tuesday after breaking into a southeast Portland home and coming into a 16-year-old girl’s bedroom. Kelley has a long criminal record spanning 27 years and four states, and Michael Kiriazis, the father of the girl at the Baskin Robbins, wants prosecutors to do more. Kiriazis said he was told Kelley would be put away for a long time and is frustrated that not only was Kelley out on the street again but that they had no idea he’d been released. “My question is what does it take to get a guy like this off the street?” Kiriazis said. “It’s just heartbreaking how he is assaulting these teenage girls and nothing happens to him and nobody’s accountable for it. The system’s broken and I’ve lost faith.” - (Black-on-white)

Prosecutors say (black) Missouri mom asked relatives to kill witnesses in son’s murder trial
Tyrell DavidsonLatasha MopkinsFredrick MopkinsCortez McClintonTravon KnightenST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office has filed charges against five people in connection with a conspiracy to kill key witnesses for a woman’s son on trial for murder. A St. Louis teen is accused of murder, and his mother is accused having two witnesses killed, to keep her son out of jail. This started with the murder of a 16-year-old almost three years ago. Police arrested a suspect, but prosecutors dropped the charges last year. "We had a mom who wanted to make sure her son did not go to jail, wasn't found guilty of his murder charges. So, she started this plan. That's what set it off. She used relatives and other people that she knew to make sure that they were quieted." said Assistant Circuit Attorney Beth Orwick. In September 2013, 16-year old Chauncey Brown was gunned down near Club 187 in north St. Louis. Homicide detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department believed Brown, a student at Sumner High School, was killed over a long-standing feud. During the course of their investigation, detectives learned Brown was outside the club—which was hosting a teen party—with a friend, identified as James Moore. A white Dodge Charger chased the two teens into a nearby alley and several shots were fired from the vehicle. Brown’s body was found the next day.
Police arrested Tyrell Davidson in connection with the murder. Several eyewitnesses had given statements to police. In November 2013, Davidson was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and shooting from a motor vehicle. He was jailed pending a trial. Less than a month after Brown’s murder, James Moore was gunned down in Barrett Brothers Park. Moore was waiting at the bus stop with his brother on the morning of October 22, 2013 when a silver Charger pulled up and the driver pointed a handgun at the two siblings. Moore and his brother went running through the park, but the driver only chased after James. James Moore was shot several times and collapsed in died in a baseball field in the park.
In April 2014, another witness, identified as Noah Barnes, was killed. Prosecutors and law enforcement said Barnes was inside the Dodge Charger with Davidson when he killed Chauncey Brown. Barnes’ body was found lying in the street in the 1900 block of Clara Avenue on April 22. He’d been shot in the head, torso, and extremities. Other witnesses in the case were no longer willing to testify in court against Davidson. Prosecutors eventually had to drop the charges and Davidson was released on October 26, 2015.
According to prosecutors, further investigation revealed
Tyrell Davidson’s mother, Latasha Mopkins, had asked relatives, identified as Frederick Mopkins and Cortez McClinton, with killing essential witnesses to ensure her son’s release. Frederick Mopkins is accused of enlisting the help of Travon Knighten in the killing of James Moore. Travon Knighten, Cortez McClinton, and Frederick Mopkins have lengthy criminal histories, prosecutors said.

Daniel RoweErron ColemanJACKSONVILLE, Fla. - One year and two days after 20-year-old Daniel Rowe was shot and killed while taking out the garbage at a Riverside restaurant, Jacksonville police announced an arrest in the case. Rowe was shot July 22, 2015, in an alley behind the Blind Rabbit, near the intersection of King and College streets, during what police described as a robbery attempt. Monday afternoon, standing with Rowe's parents, JSO Director Tom Hackney announced an arrest in the case. "It's taken a while, but I've got some answers," Hackney said, adding police took their time to build their case. "We don't want an arrest, we want a conviction." Erron Coleman, 25, was charged with murder, plus armed robbery, burglary and weapons charges. Coleman has 12 previous felony convictions and was a suspect in a 2015 strong-arm robbery when a tip from an inmate led police to investigate his connection to Rowe's death. Hackney said tips were key to breaking the case, but the investigation will not end until Coleman's accomplice is also in jail.  - (Black-on-white)
