Calah D. JohnsonDeanna LieberKANSAS CITY, Mo. – A 35-year-old man, charged with the death of a woman who was killed by a bullet as she was driving home from Starlight Theatre in July 2009, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Deanna Lieber was 45-years-old when she died from the gunshot while driving her SUV on 71 Highway after the July 17th Starlight show. Her daughter, who was 13-years-old at the time and Lieber’s mother-in-law were also in the car. Police say the "stray" bullet came from Calah Johnson’s gun. The shooting into Lieber’s SUV was captured on a red light camera. Two other vehicles were also seen near the intersection. Police tracked down the owners. One of them said she had loaned her car to Calah Johnson on the night Lieber was killed. A witness says Johnson told him he fired the shots. Johnson was scheduled to go to trial on Monday, but instead agreed to plead guilty. Johnson is currently in federal prison for cocaine trafficking. Lieber worked as attorney for the Kansas Department of Education. “It’s wrong! It’s wrong and it should not happen, we have got to stop it. Kansas City is the heart of America, we have the greatest people, yet someone like her who’s in the prime of life with a wonderful career and family is gone,” Lieber’s friend, Janet Waugh said - (Black-on-white)

Black man hides in trunk of (white) wife's car, stabs her to death and runs her over, before shooting their two kids and himself dead
Henry Ramone BrownChericia Brown2 kids murdered by their black fatherA Florida father-of-two stabbed and ran over his estranged wife, shot dead their children before turning the gun on himself in a horrific murder-suicide. Henry Ramone Brown, 30, had hidden in the trunk of his wife's car which was parked outside a Sanford Chili’s, in Lake Mary, armed with a knife. When Chericia Brown, 31, returned to her car at around 10pm on Sunday, her husband jumped out and stabbed her multiple times. Brown attempted to hide the seriously injured Chericia by dragging her into the bushes and ran round the building to retrieve his car. But two medical professionals, who had been dining at the restaurant, had discovered the victim and were attempting to help her when Brown returned. The suspect drove round the building and ran over his wife, and the two diners attempting to help her. All three were rushed to a local hospital where Chericia Brown was pronounced dead. One of medical professionals is still in hospital in a 'stable condition' while the other has since been released. Henry Brown fled the scene and police say he swapped vehicles before driving to pick up his two children, aged one and four, from a babysitter. The 30-year-old, who was armed with a gun, then drove to Central Florida Regional Hospital where his wife had been transported after his attack. He arrived at around 12.20am, in an attempt to find Chericia, but was swiftly recognized by police. Brown opened fire on officers, and hospital security staff, and managed to escape back to his Ford pick-up truck. But police gave chase and were able to track down Brown on Interstate 4, using 'stop sticks' to disable the vehicle. When deputies approached the truck, they found the suspect had shot dead his two young children inside the car, before turning the gun on himself. - (Black-on-white)

  • U.S. Charges an Engineer With Nuclear Spying for China
In a case that sounds like the plot of an espionage novel, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in China was indicted last week on charges of illegally sharing information on commercial nuclear reactors with a major Chinese nuclear power company. The nuclear engineer, Szuhsiung “Allen” Ho, recruited a ring of nuclear engineers—unnamed in the indictment—to “unlawfully engage and participate in the production and development of special nuclear material outside the United States” and to help develop China General Nuclear Power Company’s ACPR-100, a small modular reactor design, and provide computer codes for modeling reactor operations. The engineers, one of whom was a senior manager at the Tennessee Valley Authority, were paid by China General, through Ho, according to the indictment, but it is not clear whether they understood that Ho was breaking the law.
But it’s important to note that while the U.S. government is prosecuting a citizen for conspiring to “secure an advantage to the People’s Republic of China,” even as another federal agency is helping China’s nuclear power R&D program.

William SmithManual VeraManual VeraAn alleged slasher cut the neck and back of a livery driver in Queens early Saturday and then left a big tip for cops in the back seat — his wallet, ID and cellphone, police said. I had to defend myself,” Vera told The Post, adding his attacker was “moving a lot” when he got in the town car and he couldn’t tell if he was intoxicated. Vera, who took 10 stitches in his neck and 15 in his back, said the slasher didn’t steal any money but skipped out on the $10 fare for the 5-6 mile trip. After the attack, Vera took out his phone and called 911.     Killer who had lover buried in backyard tried to flee prison by forging Dallas judge’s signature
Kwaneta Yatrice HarrisMichael GilesA Texas inmate who murdered her lover and hired help to encase him in a concrete grave in his Garland backyard forged a judge’s signature this year in a scheme to get out of prison. Kwaneta Yatrice Harris faked paperwork ordering her sentence to be decreased from 50 years to eight. That could have led to her release this year. “She almost got out,” said lawyer Josh Healy, who originally prosecuted Harris in the murder case. He called the fake paperwork the latest twist in a crime saga that’s “like a movie.” The Texas Department of Criminal Justice learned of the suspicious paperwork in January and called Dallas County to inquire about its accuracy, a spokesman said Friday. He said Harris, 43, is now being held at a “higher custody level” at the Murray Unit in Gatesville. The Texas Rangers did not immediately respond Friday to questions about a possible investigation. Harris, a licensed nurse, shot Michael Giles, her on-again, off-again lover of a decade, in the back of the head in 2006.

(Interracial) Pair indicted in February murder of (White) Shreveport businessman
Cameron Lewis, 26, and Amanda WilliamsBryan SavageSHREVEPORT, LA - A Shreveport man and a Bossier City woman have been indicted in connection with a suspected arson case that uncovered a homicide back in late February. Amanda B. Williams, 28, and Cameron D. Lewis, 26, were both initially charged with principal to first-degree murder after the body of Bryan Savage was found in the back of home on Woolworth Rd. on February 22 by firefighters responding to a report of a fire in the garage. Savage, 55, had been shot in the chest. Investigators determined that killer or killers tried to cover their tracks with a fire. At the time of their arrests, police were saying they believed the 2 were involved in the murder, but that the person who "pulled the trigger" was still at large. Two days later, the charges against Williams and Lewis were upgraded to principal to first-degree murder, and police confirmed they were no longer looking for a third suspect. According to an arrest affidavit filed in the case, Williams told police she knew a burglary was going to take place at Savage's house the night he was killed. The document also says Williams and Lewis told police they were nearby the home about the time Savage was slain. Caddo Parish Grand Jury reviewing the evidence in the case decided Wednesday that there is enough evidence in the case for second degree murder against Williams and Lewis that they should go to trial. - (Black-on-white)

Bond granted for (black) teen accused in deadly hit-and-run crash - INTENTIONALLY ran over White man - killing him
Christopher MooreRoger MartinDAYTONA BEACH, Fla. —A teen faced charges related to a deadly hit-and-run crash in Daytona Beach. Christopher Moore was arrested last week in Georgia. He was brought back to the city where his alleged crime occurred. Police said during a recent trip to Daytona Beach, Moore intentionally ran over Roger Martin, killing him. Moore, a Georgia senior in high school, just turned 19. Police said he fled the scene after killing a man in Daytona Beach. The state argued for no bond, but much to the anguish of the victim's loved ones, "I just can't believe they would give that man a bond," said Heather Staffa, the victim's ex-girlfriend and mother of the victim's children. A judge said she had no choice in the case. Moore is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with death, an offense in which bail is typically granted, despite a tearful objection in and out of court from the mother of the victim's children. "He maliciously killed my children's father. He meant to do this. This was no accident," Staffa said. "I know he's young, but he killed my kids' father and left him dead on the side of the road. It's not fair." Police said Moore was in Daytona Beach with friends for spring break on April 3 when he got into an argument with Martin and Martin's friend at a beachside cafe. While behind the wheel of a van seen on city cameras, he allegedly chased after the motorcycles. Police believe Moore intentionally ran over Martin, throwing him off his motorcycle, killing him. From another camera the van can be seen dragging the motorcycle down the street as sparks flew. "Nothing is worth running a man down and killing somebody over some bar fights," Staffa said. Martin was the father of four children, ages 10 months old to 19 years old. As the suspect's attorney argued for a bond, telling the court Moore graduates in six weeks, a friend of the victim said the teenager doesn't deserve the privilege. "How is it fair that he's going to be able to go to his graduation and their oldest daughter won't have her father at her graduation next month?" said Victoria James, the victim's friend. Moore's parents were in Daytona Beach from Georgia, but did not want to talk to the media. If Moore makes bail, there are no restrictions on him returning to Georgia. However, he could be quickly back in Florida; a prosecutor revealed that the state is preparing to upgrade the charge against Moore to homicide. - (Black-on-white)
