Hamilton Co. prosecutor criticizes ruling to set aside death penalty for (black) killer (of White woman) in 1997
Rayshawn JohnsonShannon MarksCINCINNATI —Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters is criticizing a decision by the state's high court to overturn the death sentence of a man who beat a Cincinnati woman to death in 1997 during a robbery that netted $50. In a 4-3 ruling Tuesday, the court rejected Rayshawn Johnson's sentence based on his troubled upbringing and his subsequent remorse. Johnson was convicted of killing Shanon Marks with a baseball bat in 1997. He was sentenced to death in 1998, but appealed in 2006. At that time, a federal court agreed with Johnson that he had received ineffective assistance of counsel during the mitigation phase of his trial and instructed the state to commute Johnson’s death sentence or hold a new mitigation hearing. A new jury recommended death again in January 2012. Deters said the decision affects one's faith in the criminal justice system. He said the attack against Marks was horrific. "This poor family, my God,” Deters said during a news conference Tuesday. Deters didn’t hold back while talking about the state’s decision. "It is one of the most heinous crimes we've ever seen,” Deters said. He says the attack against Marks was horrific. Marks was found in her home on Nov. 12, 1997, bludgeoned to death. Johnson entered the home she shared with her husband, and beat her to death with a baseball bat. "She was a wonderful citizen of this community that was taken like that," Deters said. "By a 4-to-3 decision they've decided that the mitigation now, because we're blaming grandma, is not outweighed by the horrible aggravation of what happened to Shannon.” It is a decision that Joe Deters said will re-victimize Mark’s family. - (Black-on-white)

  • Jury to decide whether convicted black killer of (White) Shanon Marks should die - Nov 29, 2011
The final decision on whether Rayshawn Johnson will be executed will be resolved. Johnson was convicted of murder and sentenced to death in 1998 for the baseball bat bludgeoning death of his neighbor, 29-year-old Shanon Marks. Johnson lived in his grandmother's apartment that overlooked the home of Marks and her husband, who were planning to celebrate her third wedding anniversary that night. Johnson beat her with the bat 13 times, the last three in the head. Her husband found her body 13 hours later in a pool of her blood. In addition to the fatal blows that fractured her skull, she also suffered a broken jaw and a broken left arm. The assistant coroner in the case, Dr. Robert Pfalzgraf can’t forget it. “He said out of the 7,000 autopsies he’s done, he’ll never forget this because of her innocence” and how brutal it was.

(Black) Nebraska man he raped 13-year-old foster child, claims he got her pregnant with syringe
Brandon WeathersA Douglas County jury took just 90 minutes to convict an Omaha foster father of two counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child. The jury of six men and six women rejected Brandon Weathers’ argument that he impregnated his 13-year-old foster daughter with a syringe because she wanted to be pregnant. The 13-year-old girl testified this week that she and Weathers had sex several times. The sex resulted in a pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage. Under state law, it is illegal for anyone 19 or older to have sex with anyone 15 or younger. The girl was 13. Weathers was 38. She said Weathers subjected her to oral and vaginal sex “more times than she could count.”

(Black) Bronx pol announces side job on same day as Skelos conviction
Bronx Assemblyman Michael BlakeBronx Assemblyman Michael Blake announced Friday that he’s taking a job as a political consultant — without leaving office. The first-term Democrat’s hiring at Hilltop Public Solutions comes amid calls for a ban on such outside income following the convictions of ex-Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and ex-Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos. The state Legislative Ethics Commission approved the job, concluding that it would not conflict with his legislative duties. Michael Benjamin, who preceded Blake in the same Assembly seat from 2003 to 2010, criticized the arrangement. “This isn’t appropriate given the climate we’re in,” he said. “Not everything that is legal is appropriate for a sitting lawmaker.” Blake, who worked on President Obama’s campaign, defended his new gig.

(White) Boy escapes (black) would-be kidnapper in Liberty County, suspect on the run
Luke Gordonblack rapistLIBERTY COUNTY, Texas - People in Liberty County are concerned after a man tried to kidnap a 7-year-old boy near his home Tuesday. Investigators think the same man may have raped a woman and tried to kidnap another. The incidents happened in Dayton along County road 48-82 and FM 1413. Heather Gordon has three children and like most, the thought of losing one of them is indescribable. "At night I hold him tight because he could've been gone," she said. Investigators said 7-year-old Luke was walking down the road to a friend's house when a red truck pulled up. "The guy told Luke 'Well come on, I'll take you for a joy ride,'" Gordon said. Detectives said the man grabbed the boy's shoulder and tried to pull him into the truck and his mother saw it happen. "I fell to my knees. I was shaking so bad," Gordon said. "I was running down there crying, hollering his name, he wasn't answering." Thankfully, Luke broke free and ran immediately to a neighbor's home. The denoscription of the suspect and his red pick up is vague but investigators believe the man driving the car is also responsible for the rape of a 30-year-old woman somewhere along FM 1413, just west of Dayton. Investigators said a man driving a similar pick up has twice tried to lure a woman into his truck while she was jogging near her home in Liberty. "The similarities between the black male driving the red truck is so close and similar, it's possible these three are tied together," said Captain Ken DeFoor of the Liberty County Sheriff's Office. - (Black-on-white)

Ailsa “Lisa” JacksonMike WalkerCatherine WalkerA woman pleaded guilty to murder Thursday and described in a Honolulu federal courtroom how she stabbed the wife of the Army medic she was having an affair with and then waited a half-hour to make sure she was dead. As part of a plea agreement, Ailsa Jackson is expected to be sentenced to 30 to 33 years in prison in exchange for testifying against Sgt. Michael Walker, who has pleaded not guilty to murder and is scheduled to go to trial next year. They discussed making Catherine Walker’s death look like a burglary or having her drink something, Jackson said. Last year, as Catherine Walker slept in the Aliamanu Military Reservation home she shared with her husband, Jackson stabbed her multiple times with a kitchen knife, Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Brady said. The killing was carried out with malice and was premeditated, he said. - (Black-on-white)

(Black) West Bank pastor arrested on carnal knowledge charge
Bryan K. JohnsonNEW ORLEANS -- Church is supposed to be a sacred place where you encourage your children to spend time learning about God from the leaders of the church, not a place where innocence is lost to them. It’s a violation a West Bank mother says her daughter will likely take years to deal with, after she alleges the girl was in a sexual relationship with Pastor Bryan K. Johnson. That mother, who asked to remain anonymous, said she also felt violated by Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators. After presenting them with electronic evidence that a sexual relationship was happening between the 49-year-old pastor and her 16-year-old daughter, investigators told her they could not investigate further without the cooperation of her daughter.

Ex-Trenton Mayor Tony Mack, brother lose federal appeal
Tony MackGeorge "Kingfish" Stevens in the CBS television series Amos 'n' Andy.A federal appeals court has upheld the public corruption convictions of former Trenton Mayor Tony Mack and his brother Ralphiel Mack, who were found guilty in early 2014 of bribery and extortion. Tony Mack, who is serving a 58-month federal term at a West Virginia prison, made just one argument on appeal. The U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals, in Philadelphia, found no grounds for a reversal of the former mayor's convictions. The former mayor is scheduled to be released from federal custody in late 2018. Ralphiel Mack, who was sentenced to 30 months behind bars, argued five points to the appeals court. All were rejected as meritless. Ralphiel Mack is currently assigned to a halfway house in Brooklyn, N.Y.

  • US Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's remarks suggesting black students might do better at less rigorous universities
drew rapid rebukes from (blacktivist) civil rights leaders, Democrats in Congress, and the (black) White House.
However, Justice Scalia is not the first member of the nation's high court to suggest that minority students may be ill-served by affirmative action admissions policies: Justice Clarence Thomas, the only black member of the Supreme Court, made a similar comments in 2003, when he suggested that some minority students were not prepared for the rigorous coursework at the University of Michigan. The problem with that, Scalia and Justice Thomas say, is that students coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, as many minority students do, may be admitted into schools with academic expectations that they are not prepared for.

  • Baltimore homicides top 300 for year, worst since 1999
The surge in homicides started after the unrest sparked by the death of Freddie Gray, a black man, from a spinal injury in police custody. Six officers have been charged in the death. Baltimore is among a number of large U.S. cities with an upturn in homicides this year. They include Chicago, Washington, Milwaukee and Sacramento, California. Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey last month said that murder rates were soaring in many cities partly because police were holding back from aggressive tactics, fearful of being video recorded and accused of brutality.

Catholic Priest paid his male ‘sex master’ from collection plate: lawsuit
Peter MiqueliKeith CristA Catholic priest swiped collection-plate donations to pay for drug-fueled sex romps with a heavily muscled S&M “master,” a new lawsuit charges. Parishioners claim the Rev. Peter Miqueli has stolen at least $1 million since 2003 while leading churches on Roosevelt Island and in The Bronx, where he is currently pastor of St. Frances de Chantal in Throggs Neck. Their suit alleges he used the money to act out unholy fantasies as a sexual “slave,” blowing $1,000 at a time on bondage-and-discipline sessions where a “homosexual sex ‘master’ ” — identified in court papers as Keith Crist — “would force Father Miqueli to drink Keith Crist’s urine.”
