Hearing Held for Teen Accused of Brutal Rape, Murder  A 17-year-old boy was in court today for a preliminary hearing and could get life in prison without parole if convicted on charges of aggravated murder.
Police say 17-year old Robert Cameron Houston raped and murdered Raechale Elton, a counselor at a group home, in February.
A male co-worker testified in court today that he saw Elton agree to give Houston a ride to another facility. The co-worker felt uneasy about it and went to check on Elton. Instead he found her body. He also says he saw Houston running away from the crime scene, his clothing soaked in blood.
Police say Elton had been brutually raped and her throat slit. After today's hearing, the death penalty is off the table. A recent US Supreme Court ruling forbids the execution of minors. - (crime) - (Black-on-White) |
Man Sentenced In 22-Year-Old Rape Case A Louisville woman was in court Friday to see the man who raped her sentenced to prison -- 22 years after the crime. Raymond Walker was recently convicted of raping the woman and stealing her car in 1984.
He surfaced only recently as a suspect after he was convicted in a separate rape case when his DNA was submitted to a national database.
Walker's victim asked the judge to show no mercy, and said she still fears for her safety. "As far as parole, I don't want to be a 60-year-old woman looking over my shoulder wondering if he's going to attack me again, or, as he threatened to do that night: kill me."
The judge gave Walker the maximum sentence for which he was eligible: 40 years in prison. - (crime) |
Black Man Suspected in Killings of 7 Hispanics Turns Self In  Police have identified one suspect in the murders. They were looking for 28-year-old Desmond Turner of Indianapolis. On Friday, officers arrested another suspect, James Stewart, 30, after a traffic stop. He was being held Saturday on a preliminary charge of murder, the police said. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |

Demeche Shaun Lofton, 27, was arrested in the death of Heather K. Littleton, 22, of Nashville.A missing person's case has turned into a homicide investigation. 22-year-old Heather Littleton of Nashville, Arkansas was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after she never came home Friday night. Her car was found later Saturday afternoon in the Cossatot Community College parking lot. Howard County Sheriff's deputies say items from inside her car were stolen. Detectives say tracing the stolen items led them to 27-year-old Demeche Shaun Lofton, also of Nashville. Arkansas State Police detectives say Lofton took them to a wooded area in Nashville, where the found Littleton dead. Her body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the cause of death. - (Newsroom) - (crime) - (Black-on-White) Ref: Murder suspect arraigned * Missing woman’s body found Lofton was interviewed again after being advised of his Miranda rights. During this interview, he admitted choking Littleton to death after an altercation in her car turned physical. Lofton reportedly told the officers he placed her body in the trunk of her car, and drove to a local motel, where he rented a room and smoked crack cocaine. Sometime later, according to the affidavit, he drove her car to a remote location within the city limits, took her body from the trunk and put it on the ground. From there, he took the car to CCCUA and left it. Lofton offered to take investigators to Littleton’s body. He took them, the affidavit states, to a location off 4th Street, showing them where her partially nude body was. |
Black Teen Gets 10 Years For Crash That Killed White Officer * Ref: New Ordinance Sought After Lawrence Officer's Death  INDIANAPOLIS -- A teenager who authorities said drove a stolen van and caused a crash that killed a Lawrence police officer last year was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison. Dennis Sloan, 16, pleaded guilty to auto theft and resisting law enforcement causing death in connection with the wreck that killed Lawrence police Officer Craig Herbert. Dennis Sloan, then 15, was driving a stolen van and leading police on a chase on March 5, 2005, when the van broadsided a patrol car driven by Herbert. Herbert, 34, died as a result of the crash. He was the Lawrence Police Department's first officer to die in the line of duty. - (crime) - (Black-on-White) |
Sex Offender Arrested Near Where Amber Harris Bag Found * Ref: Police Seek Missing Girl  OMAHA, Neb. -- Investigators won't say if a level 3 sex offender who was arrested near the home where 12-year-old Amber Harris' backpack was found is a suspect in her death. Police arrested Roy Ellis on Friday morning at 21st and Ohio streets. Ellis is charged with making terroristic threats, first-degree false imprisonment and domestic abuse charges against a woman. Ellis was convicted of raping two young girls in 1999. Police said they're looking at all sex offenders living near the area where Harris' book bag was found in February near 21st and Lake streets. Police won't confirm or deny whether Ellis is one of the people they're investigating. - (crime) |
Teen admits killing his friend last year  Michael Staton may have saved his life today when he admitted he shot and killed his friend Roy Jenkins in Easton last year. Roy Jenkins, 17, who lived in the city's South Side, died of a single shot to the abdomen. Four other young men on the porch ran and were not hit by the other five slugs Staton fired. In exchange for the plea, the prosecution dropped its intent to seek a first-degree murder conviction and the death penalty at trial. "You mean he was shot by accident?" Judge Baratta asked. Man Found Guilty Of Killing Racine Mother, Daughter  RACINE, Wis. -- A Milwaukee man has been found guilty in the 2004 fatal shootings of a Racine mother and daughter. A Racine County Circuit Court jury found Wendell McPherson guilty Wednesday in the deaths of 40-year-old Nancy Mason and her 19-year-old daughter, Meghan Mason. The 27-year-old McPherson is scheduled for sentencing on July 7. Each victim was shot once in the head, and police also found a dog in the bedroom with its mouth bound with duct tape. Family members said they are grateful that justice has been done. - (crime) |
Police: Man 'Sold' Gas For $20 Per Tank Full BALTIMORE -- A man who police say pretended to be a station attendant and "sold" gasoline to drivers for $20 a tank was stealing the expensive commodity and pocketing the purchase money. Joseph K. Boulware, 41, of address unknown, was arrested at a gas station where, police said, he dispensed 450 gallons of gas worth about $1,300. He was charged with theft, assault and possession of crack cocaine. Authorities said Boulware used a magnetic key and a code that effectively places a pump on standby mode, allowing him to dispense gasoline unnoticed. Boulware had worked for gas testing companies, which is how police believe he obtained the key and code. - (crime) |

Milwaukee prosecutors have officially charged a 30-year-old man accused of killing two and wounding three in a Memorial Day park shooting. 
WESTMINSTER, Colo. -- A man wanted in an attack on a police officer are behind bars.Julian Morales, 24, barricaded himself inside a home Tuesday night. Nearby homes were evacuated because there were reports he had a sub-machinegun. He surrended to police several hours later. Officials said Morales was in a car that tried to back over a police officer. The officer was not injured and the alleged driver of the car was arrested. Jackie Lynn Douglas, 31, faces several charges including first-degree assault, aggravated motor vehicle theft, possession of burglary tools and criminal possession of a forged instrument. Douglas was also charged with eluding police
