Black arrested for rape and murder of 73-year-old White woman in 1984
Elma KolmanDonnie London'We're just thrilled': Victim's niece reflects on arrest in 1984 Jefferson homicide - Diane Kolman recently realized she would turn 73 this year -- the same age at which her aunt, Elma Kolman, was raped and strangled in a vacant Old Jefferson lot in 1984. For decades, authorities could not identify a suspect, though she kept in touch with Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office detectives who periodically updated her on the case long after the murder investigation had gone cold. The approach of her own 73rd birthday seemed to give her a new perspective on her aunt's violent, mysterious end. "The closer I got to being her age, I just felt like she didn't want to go. I wouldn't want to go," Diane Kolman said. Then, after years of hoping, Elma Kolman's relatives finally received word this week that authorities had arrested a suspect in her death. The Sheriff's Office on Wednesday (Jan. 20) booked Donnie London, 60, with first-degree murder, said Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the department. Through DNA testing, detectives identified London as a suspect in the April 7, 1984, killing. London, a bed-ridden resident at a Plaquemine, La., nursing home, was taken to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna by ambulance. He confessed to the crime, according to authorities. "It's long overdue," Diane Kolman said. "We're just thrilled because of the development. It's been 31 years, and we're just amazed that DNA was found, and they came up with a suspect." - (Black-on-white)

2 (black) suspects arrested in deadly Cusseta home invasion - 85-year-old (White) man murdered by black beast
Curtis RuddDevonte Travon MikeCUSSETA, AL – During a press conference on Thursday, Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones confirmed that two suspects had been arrested and charged with capital murder in the death of 85-year-old Curtis Rudd. Jones said Devonte Travon Mike, 20, of Opelika, and Robert Jamal Wiggins, 20, of Columbus, have been arrested and charged in Rudd's death.
According to the Rudd’s wife, they were awakened by a noise at their front door which resulted in the door being forced opened. Rudd’s wife was not injured in this incident. "She and her husband were in the bed and heard some sort of noise at the door,” said Captain Van Jackson with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. “It woke them both up and when they went to see what was going on they discovered two masked men inside the home, and we know for sure one was armed with a handgun."
Sheriff Jones says Rudd was armed and exchanged gunfire with the suspects and possibly wounded one of them before they fled. A short time later, investigators say a man, later identified as Wiggins, had been shot and also showed up at the ER.
Prior to the home invasion at Rudd's home, at 8:30 p.m. CST on Monday, the sheriff’s office received a call from an elderly woman on Lee County Road 390 in the same general area reporting a burglary at her home. According to police, she stated that she heard a noise at her door. When she went to the door, a suspect kicked the door in and came into her residence. She struck the intruder with her walking stick several times and the suspect fled the scene. She described the suspect as a tall, thin black male. This crime is being investigated in conjunction with the home invasion that took place about four-and-a-half hours later. - (Black-on-white)

(White) Houston PD officer shot (by black thug) in northeast Houston; 2 arrested
Jason RhodesShelton HeraldHOUSTON - A Houston police officer was shot in northeast Houston on Tuesday while attempting to stop a robbery, police said. Officer Jason Rhodes, 32, who was shot in the arm, was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in stable condition. He was released from the hospital late Tuesday afternoon. With the bullet still in his arm, we're told Rhodes is in good condition and expected to make a full recovery and have full use of his arm. Houston police Chief Charles McClelland said during a press conference Tuesday that Rhodes saw two people just after noon with their faces covered outside a Family Dollar store. The two appeared to be getting ready to rob the store. Rhodes chased the men, and during the pursuit, shots were exchanged, the chief said. "The black man, he fell down after he jumped the gate and he shot the police officer," witness Alexandra Celestine said. At least one juvenile was arrested at the scene. The suspect was caught hiding in a shed in a resident's back yard near the Family Dollar where the incident began. A second suspect, Shelton Herald, 27, was caught by a K-9 unit in a heavily wooded area. He has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 2008, court records show. He is also a registered sex offender. "The ruthless thugs out here that are trying to take property, take things from individuals who work hard and are honest, hard-working people, and they want to take a short cut in our society and take property that belongs to others," " McClelland said. "(Rhodes) did a very good job out there. We're fortunate that he wasn't more seriously injured or possibly killed in this incident. It also highlights the danger that the men and women of HPD face every single day of trying to keep this city safe." - (Black-on-white)

Terry Yelvington case: Arrest made in Polk County (black-on-White) homicide
Alfred Ranard Jenkins James "Terry" YelvingtonPOLK COUNTY -- A convicted felon "with a vendetta" was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder in the August 2015 killing of a Lake Alfred softball coach, the Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said Friday. Alfred Ranard Jenkins, 54, is accused in the shooting death of James "Terry" Yelvington, 60, found Aug. 11 in front of his home on the 700 block of South Todhunter Way. Jenkins, of Winter Haven, and Yelvington previously had worked at the same company, Packaging Corporation of America. Yelvington, who still worked there, was the president of a workers union and had input in the hiring and firing of employees. During the course of the investigation, several coworkers mentioned Jenkins, who had been fired in 2009 related to his role as union treasurer. After Jenkins' firing, Yelvington found out that Jenkins had stolen union funds and forged union checks. Yelvington reported the crime, which resulted in Jenkins' 2011 arrest for grand theft. An acquaintance said that Jenkins told him that he went to Yelvington's home and had a physical altercation with him in his garage because Yelvington had gotten him fired and arrested. Neighbors later found Yelvington dead near his driveway and told investigators they heard gunshots in the early morning hours of Aug. 11. "Alfred Jenkins drove to Terry Yelvington's house with a vendetta. This convicted felon, who has been in and out of jail in four different states, and to state prison for violent crimes, blamed this hard-working, honest family man for getting arrested and fired, and because of that, he brutally and senselessly murdered Terry Yelvington," Judd said. In addition to first-degree murder, Jenkins is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, armed robbery and tampering with evidence. - (Black-on-white)

Prosecutors said Nicholson worked with two other men to sneak up on Cook as he sat inside his marked squad car on Sept. 27, 2006. Graham Pattonbrutal black racistbrutal black racistMEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A 23-year-old, Graham Patton, has both eyes blacked out, his nose swollen and bandages all over his face following an attack in South Memphis. "I mean he doesn't even look like the same person at all," Neysa Anderson, the victim's stepsister, said. Police said the attack happened on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at the Pendleton Pines Apartments near Pendleton and Ketchum. According to officers, Patton took a walk outside around 11 p.m. when two men he did not know came out of nowhere. "Something along the lines of 'hey white boy what are you doing around here? You're not supposed to be here' or something and that was it," Anderson explained. Anderson said Patton was knocked to the ground and severely beaten. "It completely crushed his entire sinus cavity. Like his -- all the bones under his eyes, his face were all completely crushed," Anderson said. Police said the bad guys who did the crime are still out there on the streets. "I was just very afraid," Michael Patton, the victim's father, said. Michael Patton lives in East Tennessee but said over the phone he has one question for his son's attackers. "Why? Why would you do something like that to somebody that had no reason to be attacking? Doesn't make sense," Michael Patton asked. The alleged racially motivated attack also did not make sense to people who live in that community. Neighbors said although crime happens there, people do not usually beat up others because of their skin color. "He wasn't robbed. There was nothing taken. It seemed to be just a violent hate crime," Anderson concluded. - (Black-on-white) - (Hatecrimes)

Man kills girlfriend over arranged marriage, investigators say
Yusef Jamal GreenLauren WhiteLAKE WORTH, Fla. —A Lake Worth man is facing first-degree murder charges in the death of his girlfriend on Dec. 31. Deputies from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office were called to investigate after a grandmother reported that she had not heard from her granddaughter, Lauren White, since New Year's Eve. The woman told authorities that White lived in apartment with her boyfriend, Yusef Jamal Green, 37, of Lake Worth. Deputies entered the home through an open window and found blood splattered on the floor and walls and White wrapped in a sheet, bedding covers, pillows and a rug behind the living-room couch. The medical examiner determined that White died of a laceration to her neck. Investigators found candles, air fresheners, an open bottle of Clorox bleach and cleaning solution around the apartment, which they said were used in an attempt to conceal the odor of the decomposing body.     Black-robed Federal Supreme Court saves brutal black murderer of White female restaurant manager from death sentence
Supreme Court rules Florida death penalty sentencing is unconstitutional because it "gives judges too much power"
Timothy Lee HurstSupreme Court In-justicesCindy HarrisonThe Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that Florida's system for sentencing people to death is unconstitutional because it gives too much power to judges — and not enough to juries — to decide capital sentences. The 8-1 ruling said the state's sentencing procedure is flawed because juries play only an advisory role in recommending death while the judge can reach a different decision. The court sided with Timothy Lee Hurst, who was convicted of the 1998 murder of his manager at a Popeye's restaurant in Pensacola. A jury divided 7-5 in favor of death, but a judge imposed the sentence. - (Black-on-white)

In 1998, Timothy Hurst, then 19 and an employee at the Popeye's restaurant in Pensacola where Cindy Harrison was the assistant manager, taped her hands and mouth before attacking her with a box cutter. He slit Harrison's throat, left her in the restaurant freezer, stole more than $1,000 and walked out.

Harold MackeyRicardo BenyardHe’s not a vindictive man, but Harold Mackey -- an 80-year-old Korean War veteran -- hopes the man who mugged him “goes straight to jail.” That hope has already come true after St. Clair Shores police earlier this week charged a suspect in connection with the July mugging. Investigators used DNA evidence to track down the suspect. “We took a long shot on it, but we thought we might as well give it a try,” said Detective James Brueckman. “We were very happy to see the results.” Ricardo Benyard, 45, of Detroit, was arraigned Tuesday in 40th District Court on one count of unarmed robbery, a 15-year felony. Judge Mark Fratarcangeli set bond at $100,000. Mackey was working on his lawn on Larchmont Street near 11 Mile Road and Harper Avenue about 8:40 a.m. on July 30, when he was attacked from behind. The attacker forced Mackey face-first down on the ground and ripped the wallet from his rear pants pocket. The attacker fled on foot and hopped into a gray GMC SUV that was parked on a street east of the crime scene. “I had seen him walking down the street a few minutes earlier and he came back,” Mackey said. “My wife was cutting the grass in front of the house, and I was edging the side lawn. I went to bend down and he just pushed me to the ground and hit me with his fists.” Mackey suffered two broken ribs and other injuries in the attack. But he got the last laugh, as he doesn’t keep cash in the wallet and was able to put a hold on his credit cards before they were used. - (Black-on-white)

Police say the deceased is a male in his 20s from the Dayton area, and that he was in the yard between the victim's home and another house, still armed with a TEC 9 submachine gun. Two suspects got away, and police are still looking for them. - (Black-on-white)
