Jury: (Black) Colorado Springs teen guilty in killing of (White) Fort Carson soldier, wife
Macyo Joelle JanuaryJerel CouchWhitney Butler and David DunlapA reluctant witness claiming to forget a murder confession left Maryln Dunlap weeping and in tears last week, scared that her son's alleged killer would walk free. Her eyes grew moist once more Tuesday as she texted her younger son the verdict: He's guilty. After deliberating only 31/2 hours, a jury found that Macyo Joelle January murdered Staff Sgt. David Dunlap and his pregnant wife, Whitney Butler, as the newlyweds checked on their home burglary alarm in early 2013. January - charged as an adult despite being 17 at the time of the killings - showed no emotion after the 12 jurors replied "yes" in affirming their decision to 4th Judicial District Court Judge Deborah Grohs and a packed courtroom. But there was no murder charge for the 13-week-old fetus Butler carried the day she died - a result of state statutes that kept prosecutors from pressing charges for that death, prosecutor Reggy Short said. - (Black-on-white)

Wilson raped the victim and later strangled her while the accomplice was driving despite her begging him not to kill her. The defendant went on a shopping spree with the victim's credit cards. Wilson and Humphrey disposed of the victim's naked corpse in a wooded thicket in rural Hendrix County, Indiana. On Sunday, May 31, Wilson and Humphrey returned to the home of Humphrey's best friend, Beverly Finkenstead. Authorities were able to determine the identity of the corpse only by comparing its remaining teeth with the victim's dental X-rays. Wilson told cell mate Willis Maloney details of the crimes including that the initial intent had been to "snatch" the victim and rob her; that the victim was still alive when her money was taken from her; that the victim was killed before they crossed the state line into Indiana; that the corpse would be so badly decomposed that no sperm would show up. Maloney's and Humphrey's account of the rape was corroborated by the presence of semen on the back seat of the victim's car. Head hairs similar to those belonging to Humphrey were found inside the victim's car. Pubic and head hairs similar to those belonging to Wilson were also found inside the victim's car.

Supreme Court Rejects Claim In (Black-on-White) Murders Of Fort Smith Natives
Kendall Rachel Rice, from left, and Kevin JonesGregory DecayThe Arkansas Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the ineffective counsel claim of a condemned man from New Orleans who killed a Fayetteville couple in 2007. Gregory Decay, now 29, was sentenced to death twice by a Washington County jury in 2008 for fatally shooting Kevin Jones and his girlfriend, Kendall Rachel Rice, both 24, in their Fayetteville apartment in April 2007. Jones and Rice were natives of Fort Smith. Decay’s confession and recorded phone calls Decay made to his family while in jail corroborated physical evidence that incriminated Decay. Jones was a 2001 Southside graduate who moved to Fayetteville to be closer to his parents. Rice had just moved to Fayetteville, and most recently had worked at the Electric Cowboy in Fort Smith. She attended Greenwood schools as well as Southside. Decay was an evacuee from New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. He came to northwest Arkansas in search of a better life, according to 2008 trial coverage. Jesse Westeen, who drove Decay to the couple’s apartment, was sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of being an accomplice to first-degree murder. He was given 25 years on each count, to run consecutively. - (Black-on-white)

Black career criminal gets life for 3 killings in 1980s
Samuel LittleAudrey NelsonLOS ANGELES: As Audrey Nelson clawed for her life while being beaten and strangled 25 years ago, she grasped something that finally brought justice for her family Thursday and helped send a serial killer to prison. DNA found under Nelson's fingernails eventually led to Samuel Little, who was sentenced to three consecutive terms of life in prison for the murder of Nelson and two other women during the crack cocaine scourge, when several serial killers preyed on drug users and prostitutes in South Los Angeles. Over the years, Little built a lengthy rap sheet across the country and is also being eyed in dozens of other killings nationwide. Sherri Ann Nelson said after sentencing that she took some comfort knowing that her sister, who had survived horrific burns in a New York City apartment fire years before her death, had grabbed a key piece of evidence during her final struggle. Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman said Little is likely responsible for at least 40 killings nationwide since 1980. - (Black-on-white)

When he came out of the house, he told a witness, "They’re dead." The witness testified Moulton yelled "call 911." State police investigators say they saw the Moulton women "lying on the floor in the dining room" and they "we're obviously dead." Police say witnesses say Taylor's car was parked in front of a garage at the house. Taylor is also charged with arson accused of trying to burn the house down to cover up the murders. Based on a crime scene photo, it appears that whoever killed the Moultons tried to start a fire directly next to their bodies. - (Black-on-white)
